Billionaire Rancher for Love Page 9
“I feel it too, Brock.” Mia reached up to touch his face, but stopped before she made contact and wrinkled her nose. “I shouldn’t touch your face.”
“I agree,” Brock laughed. “But your lips can touch mine.”
They shared another kiss, a kiss filled with passion and mutual love. The explosion of sensations hit her again, and butterflies swarmed in her stomach. Yes, this feeling is the one she should get when she kisses her true love.
Six months later . . .
Mia stood near the corral fence, rubbing Spirit’s nose. Sky meandered over, expecting the same treatment. The two had become best friends, inseparable as Spirit had grown into a beautiful black and white heifer. She was Mia’s pet, not just some cow. She had refused to allow her baby to be sent out to pasture, and Brock had indulged her whim, even though David looked at him like he was crazy.
Brock called to her from the front porch, “Mia! People will be arriving in an hour!”
Mia glanced at her watch and winced. She’d lost track of time, as she often did when she was outside with her horse and her heifer. She turned and jogged to the house. She brushed her lips across Brock’s as she rushed past him.
“I’ll be ready before the first guest arrives,” she called as he watched her disappear up the stairs and into her room. He chuckled and followed her at a slower pace.
The shower was running, but she was still dressed, digging in her closet for the dress she’d chosen specifically for tonight. He flopped down on her bed and watched her, fascinated by her movements, as he always was.
“You are going to look amazing in that dress,” Brock told her. “And it matches perfectly with that ring on your finger.”
Mia spared him a glance as she dug in a drawer for her under garments. “Brock, anything would match this.” She held up her left hand to admire the rock he’d given her two weeks ago when he had proposed.
“It’s almost as beautiful as you are,” Brock commented.
“Always the charmer.” Mia finally found what she had been searching for. She turned when a thought hit her mind. “Did I tell you Hal is coming? And he’s bringing the magazine with your face on the cover.”
“How thrilling,” Brock deadpanned. “I’m just excited you finally got your cover story.”
“It’s the perfect story,” Mia said with a shrug. “Sexy cowboy, city girl. They fall in love over the birth of a calf. It sounds like a novel.”
“Maybe instead of working for the magazine from here, you should think about writing that novel you’ve talked about again and again.”
Mia smiled at him. He noticed everything about her. “I can do both and still help you with the ranch. Now get out. I have to get prettied up,” Mia said. She bent to kiss him, and he circled her waist with his arms and pulled her down on top of him. She squealed. “Brock!”
“I love you, Mia. Thank you for stepping into my life.”
Mia smiled and relaxed against him. “Thank you for letting me stay in yours. I love you.” She pushed away from him and jumped back when he reached for her again. “Now I mean it! I have to get ready for our engagement party. It’s bad manners for the bride and groom to be late!”
“The party can’t start without us,” Brock mused, smiling seductively at her. He patted the bed next to him. “Let’s make out.”
Mia pursed her lips. “I swear, you’re like a teenager. But you know, you’re right. It’s our party. We can kiss if we want to.” She jumped on the bed, nearly on top of him, laughing loudly as their lips came together.
